We use a Christ-centered Classical curriculum – Click here for more information.
Bible: We teach a God-centered Bible curriculum that focuses on the characteristics of God. We believe that the Bible is God’s truth revealed about Himself and is, therefore, the starting point to all truth and a relationship with Him through Jesus Christ. Biblical truth is also taught throughout the day, not only as a Bible course. In addition, students will regularly hide God’s word in their hearts through scripture memory.
History: History is God’s story, beginning before His creation. The importance of history is that we can learn from human success and failure so we are better prepared to make a difference in the future. As Christ’s AMBASSADORS, we need to be equipped with a knowledge that prepares us for our part in “His story”.
In grammar school, we have 4 distinct time periods we study: Ancient, Middle Ages, Early Modern and Modern Times. The history curriculum is a narrative that includes the world’s history and geography. We also include May as Texas history month, with a focus on our state and its rich heritage. In logic school, we focus on world history with a Christian worldview.
Language Arts:
Reading: We encourage a love of reading that is necessary for life-long learning. We incorporate a strong phonics program, reading comprehension, and a study of different literary genres. In class, assigned readings will be from the time period students are studying in history. In addition, students will use a portfolio to track their personal reading accomplishments.
Writing: We teach grammar skills beginning in kindergarten and continue each year with a spiraling review of the parts of speech, writing elements, and speaking skills. Writing is a major component in every area of our Classical curriculum.
Math: Arithmetic is the foundation of higher mathematics. Teaching will focus on mastering computation and expand to its applications. Students learn problem-solving skills to use when challenged by non-routine assignments. Mathematical reasoning will also be developed along with the ability to communicate solutions.
Foreign Language: Spanish classes begin in 1st grade and continue through 3rd with a variety of vocabulary, Christian truths, and Bible verses. We introduce our Christian Latin program in 4th grade when we teach Latin vocabulary, prayers and songs using translation, grammar forms and memorization. Studying Latin helps students better understand the English language , vocabulary, and grammar while training their minds to think analytically. Latin also facilitates an understanding of history and classical literature. Today, it is still used for technical terms. Finally, Latin is foundational to the learning of Romance languages.
Science: Our science program teaches children with hands-on learning and science experiments. We study Earth Science, Astronomy, Biology, Physical Science, and Chemistry in a way that is honoring to God and harmonious with His Word. Students are encouraged to recognize the beauty and intricacies of our Father’s creation.
Music: God gave us music to enjoy and to praise Him. We teach music appreciation through a study of Classical composers. Our curriculum includes skills to understand rhythm and read music.
Art: God, our Creator, is the master artist. A sunrise is just one of God’s gifts of art each morning! We study paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures, and photographs. Children are taught to express their creativity in visual art using various techniques and media. They also learn to appreciate the masterpieces of famous artists.
PE: We believe that each student needs physical exercise and training on how to care for God’s temple. PE students are taught to honor God with their bodies, always give their best effort, care for others, and play fair.
